Disclosure: LMS Advisor is built by the All-in-One LMS team. We score it with the same criteria as every other product on this page.

The best LMS for credit unions and community banks is one that proves training happened: who was assigned what, when they finished, what they scored and which version of the material they saw. On our published rubric, BVS Monarch LMS scores highest (79/100) because it pairs a banking and credit union course library with audit-ready reporting, SAML single sign-on and an annual SOC 2 Type 2 audit. Litmos is a close second (76/100) for institutions that want a general corporate LMS with AML, KYC and fraud content available.

Our own product, LMS Advisor, scores 75/100 and ranks third. It earns full marks on audit evidence, recurring assignment cycles and branch-level oversight, but it has no compliance course library, which most credit unions need on day one. If you already license courses from a content vendor, read the "How to choose" section: the order changes.

This guide is for training and compliance officers at banks and credit unions with roughly 30 to 1,000 staff. Most lists of "LMS for financial services" are written by a vendor or rank enterprise platforms on general features. We scored six platforms on what an examiner and an internal auditor actually ask for, using each vendor's own documentation checked in October 2026.

How we evaluated LMS platforms for banks and credit unions

We started from the rules. Under 12 CFR 748.2(c), a federally insured credit union's Bank Secrecy Act compliance program must "provide training for appropriate personnel", and banks carry the same requirement through their own regulators. The FFIEC BSA/AML Examination Manual adds the record-keeping detail: training should be tailored to each person's responsibilities, the board and senior management should receive foundational training, and the institution should keep training materials, the dates of sessions and attendance records available for auditor or examiner review. NCUA's guidelines for safeguarding member information (Appendix A to Part 748) also tell credit unions to train staff to implement the information security program.

So the rubric weights evidence first, content second and price last. We read each vendor's product pages, help or specification pages and pricing pages on 22 October 2026. This is a documentation review, not a hands-on test, and no vendor paid to be included. Where a vendor does not document a capability, we score it 1 (not documented) rather than assume it exists, so a low score often means "ask in the demo".

Each platform is scored from 1 to 5 on six criteria. The weighted score is the weight multiplied by the score and divided by 5, so the maximum is 100.

1. BVS Monarch LMS: 79/100

BVS Performance Solutions describes Monarch as an LMS "built for banks and credit unions" and has been building training tools only for financial institutions for more than 45 years. It is the most complete package here for a credit union that wants one contract covering courses, tracking and reporting.

Administrators assign courses by role, department or individual, automate reminders and deadlines, and manage daily, monthly and annual training cycles. Reporting includes real-time dashboards and "mastery documentation per learner per course", and one transcript can hold BVS courses, instructor-led sessions, webinars, conferences and third-party content. The courseware catalog lists more than 500 courses, including BSA basics, BSA for tellers, CIP, suspicious activity, OFAC, beneficial ownership, GLB privacy, FCRA, Truth in Savings, UDAAP, Reg B and Reg Z.

  • Pros: a financial institution course library and LMS in one; SAML 2.0 single sign-on (identity provider initiated); SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004 and AICC packages can be imported; an annual SOC 2 Type 2 audit with the report available on request; phishing simulations with follow-up training.
  • Cons: no published pricing; branch-level manager views are not described on the pages we read; SSO is documented only as identity provider initiated, so check how your IdP and help desk will work with it.
  • Pricing note: quote only as of October 2026. The vendor says it serves institutions from 30 to 3,000 employees.

2. Litmos: 76/100

Litmos is a general corporate LMS with a financial services solution. Its finance page says it can deliver FINRA, SEC, AML, KYC, fraud prevention and institution-specific compliance training, with "complete, time-stamped training records for every learner". The compliance training page describes a tamper-evident training history that exports to the format auditors ask for, expiration windows on compliance certifications with automatic reminders and re-enrollment, and escalation to managers when renewals are missed.

It loses points on the course library, not because content is missing but because the premium and partner libraries are add-ons, and its finance page focuses on securities and AML rather than US credit union regulations such as Reg CC or Reg E.

  • Pros: strong audit trail and recertification automation; SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004, xAPI and AICC support; AI content authoring; suited to institutions that also certify brokers, agents or partners.
  • Cons: content libraries cost extra; no security attestation is named on the finance page; more platform than a small credit union may need.
  • Pricing note: Foundation starts at $8K a year and Platinum at $15K a year as of October 2026; Platinum AI is quoted.

3. LMS Advisor: 75/100 (our product)

LMS Advisor, our self-hosted LMS, scores full marks on audit evidence, recurring cycles and own-content sign-off, and loses most of its points on the course library. Its banking page states plainly that there is "No compliance course library": content comes from your own team or from SCORM vendors.

What it does well is the evidence. Mandatory courses get due dates, automatic reminders go to learners who have not started or have stalled, and an overdue report shows who missed a date. Certificates carry a validity period in months per course and show Valid, Expiring soon or Expired, with a reminder before they lapse and renewal that resets the enrollment. Product sign-off for advisors and agents runs through proctored exams with ID photo capture, webcam snapshots, face monitoring, fullscreen lockdown and tab-switch logging. Admin actions are logged, exports cover completions, scores, certificate dates, exam evidence and audit log entries, and deactivated users keep their history, even after a SCIM delete. You can create an organization for each legal entity or business line, and branch managers see only their own people.

  • Pros: SAML 2.0 SSO with role mapping, SCIM 2.0 deprovisioning, passkeys and two-factor authentication; SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004, xAPI and cmi5 uploads; retention settings for logs and proctoring snapshots; cloud or self-hosted in your own data centre on PHP and MySQL; AI features can be switched off entirely.
  • Cons: no compliance course library; no SOC 2, ISO 27001 or regulatory certification; no report builder (reports export to CSV, Excel and PDF); the mobile experience documented on its banking page is the installable web app (PWA) rather than a native app; it is not a course-selling storefront.
  • Pricing note: quote-based for cloud or self-hosted, with a free trial and no credit card needed as of October 2026. See how LMS Advisor handles this on its banking page, or request the trial there.

4. TalentLMS: 69/100

TalentLMS is the easiest platform here to price and trial. It supports branches (separate training environments with their own portal, users and content), automations triggered by completions, expirations or inactivity, custom reports, and a Timeline that exports as an audit trail. It supports SCORM, xAPI and cmi5, and every paid plan includes SAML 2.0, LDAP and OpenID Connect.

  • Pros: published prices; a free plan for up to 5 users and 10 courses; branches suit a small credit union with several locations; good standards support for courses you buy elsewhere.
  • Cons: no banking or credit union catalog is documented, and its TalentLibrary course collection is a paid add-on on every plan; a formal recertification workflow is not described on its features page.
  • Pricing note: as of October 2026, Core is $119 a month, Grow $229 a month and Pro $449 a month plus $6 per extra user, billed monthly; annual billing saves 20%.

5. BankersHub: 64/100

BankersHub sells a training membership to banks and credit unions, delivered on the Noggin Guru learning platform. Its three tiers are defined by course count: Emerging Guru with 400+ courses across branch operations, compliance, fraud, lending, payments and risk; Established Guru with 700+, adding technology, cybersecurity, leadership and First Line of Defense courses; and Enlightened Guru with about 1,800, adding HR, business law and teller training.

  • Pros: a large financial institution catalog; assignments with due dates, overdue reporting and reports you can save, schedule and export; content can also be delivered by SCORM into an LMS you already run.
  • Cons: uploading your own training starts on the middle tier and single sign-on only on the top tier; no security attestation is named on its pricing page.
  • Pricing note: each tier is "priced to your learner count" with no figures published as of October 2026.

6. OnCourse Learning: 46/100

OnCourse Learning, which lists itself among the Colibri Group brands, is primarily a content provider. Its credit union page lists more than 1,150 credit union courses, including over 650 online compliance courses and over 200 professional development courses, delivered on an LMS with HRIS integration that consolidates training, tracking and reporting.

Its low score reflects documentation, not necessarily the product: the public page does not describe role-based assignment, due dates, single sign-on or SCORM uploads, so we scored those as not documented. If content depth is your priority, it belongs on the shortlist, but ask for the LMS feature list in writing.

  • Pros: the largest credit union course catalog here; expert-led training in several formats, including webinars and micro-learning.
  • Cons: little public detail on the LMS itself; no published pricing.
  • Pricing note: quote only as of October 2026.

How to choose an LMS for your credit union or bank

Decide where your courses will come from

This is the decision that changes the ranking. If you need a regulatory course library on day one, start with BVS, BankersHub or OnCourse Learning, and judge their LMS on the evidence questions below. If you already license content as SCORM packages, or write your own policy and product training, drop the library criterion: on the remaining 80 points LMS Advisor scores 71 of 80, Litmos 64 and BVS 63, because evidence, cycles and sign-off then carry the weight.

Ask the questions an examiner will ask

  • Show me who was assigned BSA training this year, when each person finished and their test score, in one export.
  • Which version of the course did each person complete, and can you show me the material as it was on that date?
  • What happens to a leaver's records when HR deactivates the account?
  • Can the board's training be tracked separately from staff training?
  • Can a branch manager see only their own branch, and get overdue alerts?

Check identity and data handling with IT

Ask for the SOC 2 report or equivalent, how single sign-on and deprovisioning work with your identity provider, and where learner data is stored. Self-hosting matters to some institutions for data residency; for others a vendor's audited cloud is simpler. Our LMS requirements by industry guide covers the questions that apply to other regulated sectors too, and the best LMS for law firms list shows how the same evidence-first rubric works in another regulated profession.

Run a short pilot on one real cycle

Load one annual compliance curriculum, assign it to one branch with real due dates, and export the report your examiner or internal auditor would request. A platform that cannot produce that report cleanly in a pilot will not produce it under exam pressure.

How we can help

We design and build training platforms for regulated teams, including finance and banking training with audit-ready reporting, SSO and self-hosted deployment. If you are comparing vendors, our LMS consulting team can turn your examiner checklist into a scored shortlist and run the pilot with you. Frequently asked questions

Are credit unions required to train staff on BSA?

Yes. NCUA's rule at 12 CFR 748.2(c) requires a federally insured credit union's BSA compliance program to provide training for appropriate personnel. The FFIEC examination manual expects that training to fit each role and expects the institution to keep materials, dates and attendance records for examiners.

What is the best LMS for a small credit union?

A small credit union usually needs ready-made compliance courses more than advanced features, so a content-plus-LMS vendor such as BVS or BankersHub is the usual starting point. If you write your own training or already buy SCORM courses, a lower-cost general LMS with branches and reminders can be enough.

What records should bank compliance training software keep?

At minimum: who was assigned each course, the due date, completion date, test score, the version of the material, attendance for live sessions and certificate expiry. Records for leavers should be kept, not deleted, and exportable in a format your auditor can read.

Can we use our own policies and courses in a banking LMS?

Most platforms here accept SCORM packages and uploaded documents, and several support graded exams for policy or product sign-off. Check whether uploading your own content is included in your plan, because some membership tiers reserve it for higher levels.
